Copo cafe crossed off list

Some restaurants improve overtime, like TonTon at Regents Place. Others stay and keep their same level of skills, like Wagamama- always the same overpriced dodgy food, or Gumshara- always the same authentic ramen that's worth it despite the price raise. Then there are those that just goes backwards... like... Copo cafe =(

It's always unfortunate when that happens because it becomes a huge disappointment. I like revisiting places, and I tend to visit places that are reasonably good again, bringing different friends, tt, or even just having a chill out session by myself (and the kindle, of course). When a place is visited for the first time and leaves a good impression, it automatically joins the (mental) list of "place to revisit", where places like Wagamama are banned till further notice.

Sad to say, Copo cafe might have ended up crossed off that list. It'll be a long while before forgiveness ensues, and they aren't even that bad. The food on all appearances look alright, pretty appetizing actually. However, the first time I went there, they left an impression that was too strong and good, so when a revisit came and disappointment experienced, the impact is much stronger than those restaurants which have always been bad.

I came back to copo thinking to myself that I wanted to try their mushroom breakfast dish. It's good, but not spectacular.

Their blueberry smoothie was good though, can't fault smoothies, especially not in the mornings.

Their website says "Our menu is changing constantly, so don’t be surprise if you come in and find a new special available for you." Last I remembered, the menu was much more extensive, now it's just.. a one page thing. Even though I was sick the previous time I went, I remembered the food to be really good. Taking a trip down memory lane:

This was what the food looked like before.

And this, my smoked trout. Both these dishes aren't on the menu anymore, and they don't even serve food in those cute shallow tin dishes anymore. You get boring white plates that don't stand out now.

Sad thing is, Copo cafe isn't even easy to get to. Located at M3, 135 Victoria Rd, you have to drive there... and somehow find it by entering the back way through Formosa Road.

*sigh* Enough whinging I guess... At least one thing's for certain...

Cafe Ish at Surry Hills is still good =) That was a revisitation that didn't disappoint, thank goodness.

Highly recommend: Soft shell crab and avocado omelette. You can get the full size one which is over $20, or the half size with rice and miso soup, I can't remember the price, but it was less than 20. Won't go wrong with this choice!

Always wanted to visit Cafe Ish.. do you still need to ask for permission to take photo of your food???

I went with a friend and we acted like tourists (not hard, haha), so we were using my compact camera (Stanley) to take mock photos of each other... and the food/drink.

I didn't ask, but I was wary about being scolded for it... however, their wattle cappucino is simply divine.

Next time bring a pen + pad; they'll think you're a reviewer ;)

Chumpy's sister's friend did that in America, got so much stuff on the house (he didn't do it on purpose, was actually taking personal notes).

Yea, or you can do that. I think that happened before with us too, but we didn't get free stuff, just really over-attentive service and heaps of recommendations (ie. pushy waiters and waitresses!)
